Status: Planning Approved
Grade-II listed Barns and Stables, among the earliest works of Sir John Soane, are restored and converted from derelict ruins to functional, high-end residential accommodation. An elevated rooftop floats above Soane’s stable block, suspended by a ribbon of continuous glazing. While decisive cuts in to the linear mass of the adjacent barn, create top-lit gallery spaces, and bedroom terraces.
Set in the valley of the River Tud, the approved proposals revitalise important heritage buildings and create a new gateway to the parklands around. Combining narratives on modern living and a weighed use of space, the original features and proportions are accentuated by unapologetic alterations.
